Vikings Take Big Step Towards Signing Jauan Jennings in Free Agency

The Minnesota Vikings have largely kept a low profile this offseason, thanks in large part to some salary cap issues. After making nine picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, though, the Vikings have a new crop of young players joining their team, and it sounds like they may not be done adding to their team just yet, either.

With the draft in the rearview mirror, teams across the league will begin turning their attention back to free agency in order to shore up their remaining needs. After losing Jalen Nailor earlier this offseason, Minnesota could use some help at wide receiver, which has led to the front office taking a look at former San Francisco 49ers star Jauan Jennings.

Vikings Host Jauan Jennings on Free Agent Visit

Once the first wave of free agency died down, Jennings emerged as the clear-cut top free agent left on the open market. Thanks in large part to a slew of injuries that San Francisco has dealt with in recent years, Jennings has had to turn himself into a consistent target in the passing game for his team. And to his credit, he has managed to do just that.

In 2024, Jennings enjoyed a breakout campaign, as he hauled in 77 passes for 975 yards and six touchdowns. After a brief contract dispute with the Niners, he signed a new deal that put a temporary band-aid on his situation. Jennings was solid in 2025 through 13 games (55 REC, 643 YDS, 9 TD), but with Mike Evans and Christian Kirk being signed in free agency, it’s clear the team is moving on from him.

The Vikings already have a top-tier duo at wide receiver in Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, as well as former Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson. However, the front office believes it needs a proper replacement for the speedy Nailor, which is why the team is hosting Jennings on a free agent visit in the wake of the draft wrapping up.

“49ers free-agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings is visiting tonight and Wednesday with the Minnesota Vikings, per source,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported in a post on X.

Should the Vikings Sign Jauan Jennings?

While Jennings could conceivably replace Nailor, the two guys don’t play very similar styles of football. Nailor is a shifty speedster, whereas Jennings is a physical bruiser who is not afraid to mix it up with whoever he is matched up against. And yet, with Jefferson and Addison in tow, the Vikings have the flexibility to add whichever sort of wide receiver they feel they could use.

Just because Jennings has stuck around on the open market for this long doesn’t mean he is going to sign a cheap deal, and with Addison needing a new deal in the near future, the front office has to consider whether or not it is worth giving another wide receiver a big contract. Jennings would be a sound fit for the Vikings, but the team may not be able to afford him if the price gets too high.
