The Minnesota Vikings are in the market for a veteran quarterback to be a potential bridge to J.J. McCarthy, who is on the mend from meniscus surgery last August.
Sam Darnold signed on for that role and put forth a Pro Bowl-caliber season, racking up 4,319 yards passing and 35 touchdowns and a 14-win season.
Regardless of whether he decides to re-sign or move on, the position must be filled.
A quiet candidate for the job if Darnold signs elsewhere is Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, whose contract negotiations with the Rams have escalated to a call from Stafford’s wife to move onto a new team.
If that happens, the Vikings are the betting favorite to land Stafford with +300 odds, according to SportsBetting.ag.
Kevin O’Connell‘s familiarity with Stafford, winning a Super Bowl as the Rams’ offensive coordinator in 2021, adds intrigue for a potential reunion.
