Verizon responding to widespread service outages in Chicago and across the nation

Thousands of Verizon customers in Chicago and across the country reported service outages Monday.

In a statement posted to X, Verizon said it is aware of the outages and was “working quickly to identify and solve the issue.”

Over 100,000 customers nationwide have reported outages, according to the website Downdetector.com.

In Chicago, there were 4,490 reports of Verizon outages about 10:20 a.m., according to the site. As of 1:30 p.m., the number of reports had dropped to 836.

Half of the reports nationwide are related to issues with mobile phones, according to the site.

Many commenting on the Downdetector.com page said their mobile phones were stuck in SOS mode, meaning the device is not connected to a cellular network but can still make emergency calls.
