UFC 327: Jiri Prochazka vs. Carlos Ulberg Results

A new light heavyweight champion was crowned at UFC 327 as Carlos Ulberg defeated Jiri Prochazka to claim the vacant title. Ulberg accomplished this in spectacular fashion as he appeared to have injured his knee and was wobbling. That did not stop, as he delivered a 1st round knockout.

The event was an entertaining showcase and definitely one that sent fans at Kaseya Center in Miami home happy. Fans witnessed a storybook ending to a legendary career, a new star emerge in the heavyweight division, and a new light heavyweight champion crowned.

The promotion also shared a first look at what UFC Freedom 250 will look like at the White House on Jun. 14. A promo aired featuring UFC CEO Dana White and the event’s headliners.

Also announced at the event was that Gable Steveson has signed with the UFC. The Olympic gold medalist is unbeaten in MMA and will make his octagon debut during International Fight Week on Jul. 11.

Early Prelims

Charles Radtke defeated Francisco Prado by unanimous decision (170 lbs)
Vicente Luque defeated Kelvin Gastelum by 1st round submission (185 lbs)
Chris Padilla and MarQuel Mederos fight to a majority draw (158 lbs)

Luque stole the show on the early prelims with his impressive win over Gastelum. He snaped his two-fight losing skid by submitting the former TUF winner with a vintage performance

Tatiana Suarez defeated Loopy Godinez by 2nd round submission (115 lbs)
Mateusz Gamrot defeated Esteban Ribovics by 2nd round submission (155 lbs)
Kevin Holland defeated Randy Brown by unanimous decision (170 lbs)
Aaron Pico defeated Aaron Pico by unanimous decision (145 lbs)

The prelims featured many notable names and could set the stage for big fights later this year. Tatiana Suarez called for a title shot after submitting Loopy Godinez to push back into the title conversation at 115 pounds.

In the prelims headliner, Aaron Pico picked up his first UFC win over former two-division Bellator champion Patricio Pitbull. Pico showcased his well rounded skill set and power, and proved why many once considered him the greatest MMA prospect.

With the win, Pico could be matched up with a top 10 featherweight. Pitbull’s, meanwhile, is uncertain. He turns 39 years old in July and his loss to Pico could have ended his UFC title hopes.

Dominick Reyes defeated Johnny Walker by split decision (205 lbs)
Josh Hokit defeated Curtis Blaydes by unanimous decision (265 lbs)
Paulo Costa defeated Azamat Murzakanov by 3rd round TKO (205 lbs)
Carlos Ulberg defeated Jiri Prochazka by 1st round knockout (205 lbs) – Vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship

The main card began with Cub Swanson turning back the clock and finishing Nate Landwehr. Swanson entered the bout as the final active fighter that joined the UFC from WEC. After his win, a tribute aired on the broadcast honoring Swanson’s career.

In heavyweight action, Josh Hokit and Curtis Blaydes delivered a Fight of the Night. Fans were on the edge of their seats as they witnessed arguably one of the greatest heavyweight bouts in UFC history.

It was later announced that Hokit will make a quick turnaround and face Derrick Lewis at the White House event.

Just when fans thought they had seen it all, the main event delivered another incredible display of toughness. Ulberg injured his ACL and was visibly compromised. However, he capitalized on an opportunity and finished Prochazka with strikes to win the vacant light heavyweight championship.
