Two wounded in Saturday night drive-by shooting in Oakland

OAKLAND — Two men were wounded in a drive- by shooting Saturday night, the Oakland Police Department said.

The men were standing on the 1400 block of 17th Avenue when a car with at least two occupants opened fire and drove off at 8:55 p.m., authorities said.

One man, age 62, was struck multiple times and is currently in critical but stable condition. The other man, 46, is also in stable condition after being struck once in the leg.

Suspect information has not been released. Authorities are investigating the motive for the shooting, including possible links to illegal gambling or trafficking, two activities known to occur in the area.
