Two wildfires spark in Jewell Wetlands Park, south Aurora open space

Aurora firefighters are working to contain two wildfires reported at a park and open space within minutes of each other Monday afternoon, according to fire officials.

Aurora Fire Rescue first responded to a 2-acre vegetation fire in Jewell Wetlands Park along South Potomac Street at around 3:26 p.m., the agency said in a post on X.

No structures were threatened by the fire and no injuries were reported, though smoke is visible in the area. A video posted by the department showed large flames burning through trees in the park.

A second wildfire sparked on roughly 2 acres of open space near the 8000 block of South Kewaunee Street at around 3:45 p.m., according to the department.

Fire crews managed to stop forward progress on both fires at around 4:15 p.m. The cause of the fires is under investigation.
