The CHP said the gunshot injuries were not major and that both occupants of the Chevrolet Camaro were expected to be OK. An ambulance took them to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities first received reports of the gunfire about 10:30 p.m. on eastbound state Highway 24, east of the Wilder Road exit, according to a statement from the agency. The motive has not been determined, and the CHP did not identify any suspect or have any details about a suspect vehicle.

Detectives were working to piece together those parts of the investigation and asked anyone with information to contact them at 707-917-4491.

The CHP closed Highway 24 in the eastbound direction for about an hour to investigate.
