Two Chicago police officers, another person hospitalized after shooting in South Shore

Two Chicago police officers and one other person were taken to a nearby hospital Friday night after reports of a possible officer-involved shooting, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Dozens of officers and more than a dozen police vehicles lined East 79th Street just east of South Jeffery Boulevard by 6 p.m. Friday after reports of a possible officer-involved shooting.

Investigators with Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability responded Friday evening to an officer-involved shooting near 2000 E. 79th St., the agency said. COPA announced the response just after 5:30 p.m.

CPD’s mobile command center was moved onto South Chappell Avenue, closer to where evidence technicians carried markers into an alley behind an abandoned convenience store, where the shooting appeared to have happened.

At least one ATF agent was also present at the scene.

When contacted for comment, Chicago police said they were still waiting on information from responding officers. No further information was immediately available.

COPA is asking that anyone with information regarding the shooting call 312-746-3609.
