Trade Pitch Swaps Eagles WR A.J. Brown for Former 1st Round Pick

We will see soon enough exactly how sick the Philadelphia Eagles have become of dealing with petulant wide receiver A.J. Brown.

If the Eagles trade Brown and take on approximately $43 million in dead cap space, we can take it as they’ve been lying to us the last few years every time someone went in front of a microphone and said everything with Brown was OK. In this outcome, things were never OK, things were pretty much always bad, and Brown had to go after one transgression too many.

If they keep Brown, we’ll know it’s because they actually want to try and win another Super Bowl in 2026. Without him, it’s hard to see how that’s possible.

Still, the Eagles might just be totally done with Brown. It would be hard to blame them if that’s the case. So when it comes to a trade, it’s just a question of finding the team willing to cough up the right assets and give the Eagles a little something back in return.

AFC West Could Be Perfect Destination

In Brown’s defense, playing offense for the Eagles must seem like being on a rollercoaster — he will be on his 5th offensive coordinator in 5 seasons with former Green Bay Packers assistant Sean Mannion hired to take over over for Kevin Patullo, who was fired after one season.

Brown’s discontent with the way the offense is run — pretty poorly about half the time — is why Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine put Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver and former first round pick Quentin Johnston at the top of a list of trade targets for the Eagles.

In this scenario, the Eagles likely get Johnston and a 1st round pick or Johnston and multiple 2nd round picks back in return for Brown.

The Chargers would get the one thing that’s been missing on their roster since they drafted quarterback Justin Herbert in 2020 with a legitimate NFL All-Pro talent at wide receiver.

That’s what Brown still is. He earned NFL All-Pro honors in each of his first 3 seasons in Philadelphia, including playing in 2 Super Bowls and winning 1, after the 2024 season. In 6 NFL seasons, Brown has over 1,000 yards receiving 5 times, including each of his 4 seasons in Philadelphia.

In the one season Brown didn’t hit 1,000 receiving yards he had 63 receptions for 869 yards and 5 touchdowns in just 13 games for the Tennessee Titans in 2021.

Brown Trade Could Be Imminent

All signs point to Brown’s time in Philadelphia coming to an end.

Appearing on Philadelphia’s 97.5 FM The Fan on January 28, Schefter was discussing the possibility of the Eagles finding their offensive coordinator in the coming days — which they did — and was asked to come back to discuss the hire if and when it happens.

“And … maybe it’ll be even more than that by next week,” Schefter said. ” … maybe it will be more of a discussion than an offensive coordinator. We’ll see.”

Still more than a month out from the start of free agency, there is only one other move by the Eagles that would move the richter scale at all, and that’s trading Brown.
