Timberwolves Get Devastating Injury News on Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo

The Minnesota Timberwolves are facing a major setback in the middle of their first-round playoff series after losing two key starters to significant injuries in Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets.

Minnesota secured a 110-96 win to take a 3-1 series lead, but the result was overshadowed by injuries to Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo. Both players exited before halftime, forcing the Timberwolves to adjust on the fly in a game that could shape the rest of their postseason.

The main concern now centers on Edwards, whose diagnosis was confirmed Sunday. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, “Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has sustained a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee and is expected to miss multiple weeks.” While tests showed no ligament damage, his absence will extend beyond the remainder of the first-round series.

Edwards suffered the injury late in the first half of Game 4 when he landed awkwardly on his left leg after contesting a shot. He immediately fell to the floor and needed assistance to reach the locker room.

An MRI later confirmed a bone bruise and hyperextension. Charania added, “Results showed Edwards avoided any ligament damage, but he will now miss time.” In a follow-up post, he noted that Edwards “will begin rehab immediately as the Timberwolves finish their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets — up 3-1 — without him.”

The timeline rules Edwards out for the remainder of the current series. His postseason return will depend on his recovery progress over the coming weeks.

Before the injury, Edwards had been central to Minnesota’s playoff push. His absence now shifts more responsibility onto the rest of the roster as the team attempts to close out Denver and potentially advance to the Western Conference semifinals.

Minnesota responded in Game 4 despite losing its leading scorer. Ayo Dosunmu stepped up with a career-high 43 points off the bench, becoming just the fourth player in NBA history to score 40 or more points off the bench in a playoff game.

The Timberwolves will now rely on depth and adjusted rotations, with players like Mike Conley expected to take on larger roles in Edwards’ absence.

Donte DiVincenzo Injury Adds Season-Ending Loss

The situation became more difficult earlier in the game when Donte DiVincenzo went down with a non-contact injury just 1 minute and 19 seconds into Game 4.

DiVincenzo suffered a torn right Achilles tendon while attempting to pursue a rebound after missing a three-point shot. He was able to walk off the court initially but was later seen in a wheelchair with a splint on his leg. The team confirmed he is out for the season.

Head coach Chris Finch addressed the loss after the game, saying, “Completely devastating for Donte. He’s had such a great season. He’s the heart and soul of so many things that we do. You could see the look in his eye when it happened and you knew. We’ll love him and be there for him.”

DiVincenzo’s absence removes a key piece from Minnesota’s backcourt rotation. Known for his perimeter shooting and defensive activity, he had played a significant role throughout the season.

The Timberwolves now face the challenge of continuing their playoff run without two starting guards. The team has shown resilience by winning Game 4, but the long-term impact of these injuries remains significant.

Minnesota holds a 3-1 lead over Denver, giving them a margin to potentially close out the series without Edwards. However, the focus now shifts to how the roster adapts moving forward.

With Edwards beginning rehabilitation and DiVincenzo ruled out, the Timberwolves will enter Game 5 with a reshaped lineup and increased pressure on their remaining core to maintain momentum.
