These were Colorado’s 10 most frequently stolen vehicles in 2024

Vehicle thefts in Colorado continued to drop in 2024 after hitting a record high in recent years, with Chevy Silverados and Hyundai Elantras still the most frequent targets, according to data released by the Colorado State Patrol on Tuesday.

The number of stolen vehicles dropped by 25% statewide in 2024, from 32,976 in 2023 to 24,469 last year, state officials said in a news release.

Metro Denver saw the most thefts — 17,174 in 2024 — as well as the biggest drop, reporting 27% fewer thefts last year.

“While incidents of auto theft remain high, the efforts being made are working,” CSP leaders said Tuesday. “This also includes the public’s growing awareness of this crime and proactive measures to keep vehicles safe.”

Theft prevention can be as simple as locking your car and taking your keys with you to more advanced measures like steering wheel locks, GPS trackers and kill switches, state officials said.
