Tesla crashes, leaving Lisle man dead, 2 others injured in Lemont Township

A 36-year-old Lisle man was killed and two other men injured early Wednesday when a speeding car crashed and went airborne landing near a creek in Lemont Township.

Sameer S. Gowani was pronounced dead on the scene on 135th Street near Archer Avenue after the 2:15 a.m. crash, according to the Will County coroner’s office.

Gowani was a front-seat passenger in a Tesla Model 3 eastbound on 135th Street. The 34-year-old driver lost control on a curve near Archer Avenue, the Will County sheriff’s office said.

After crossing into the westbound lanes of traffic, the Tesla hit a curb, went airborne and landed in a grassy area near the entrance of a Target store, the sheriff’s office said.

The Tesla came to rest on the east side of Long Run Creek after it slammed into a raised median and another curb before plummeting down an embankment, the sheriff’s office said.

A 33-year-old man, who was a back-seat passenger, was ejected. He was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in critical condition. The driver was extricated by firefighters and taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where his condition was stabilized.

No charges have been filed.
