Teen killed in shooting at Greenwood Village RTD station Tuesday

A 17-year-old boy is dead after a Tuesday afternoon shooting at a light rail station in Greenwood Village, police said.

Greenwood Village police officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Regional Transportation District’s Dayton Station just before 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the department. The station is near Interstate 225 and South Dallas Street.

When officers arrived at the station, they found one boy who had been shot and another victim with injuries from “an apparent assault,” according to the release.

Paramedics took both victims to the hospital, where the teenager who was shot later died from his injuries, police said.

Witnesses told investigators they saw multiple suspects running from the scene but, as of Wednesday afternoon, none of them had been publicly identified or arrested.

The light rail station and surrounding areas were shut down during the investigation for several hours on Tuesday, reopening around 7 p.m., police said. Police said the area is safe and they believe the shooting was an isolated incident.
