SWAT team arrests boy, 17, after shots fired during robbery attempt in Armour Square

A Chicago police SWAT team arrested a teen boy Wednesday night after he allegedly opened fire on a 60-year-old man during an attempted robbery in Armour Square.

The man was walking just before 8:20 p.m. in the 200 block of West Pershing Road when the boy approached him and tried taking his belongings, leading to a struggle, Chicago police said.

As the boy fled, he turned and fired shots at the man who wasn’t shot, police said.

Responding officers approached the boy, but he ran into a nearby residence, prompting a SWAT team response, police said.

The boy exited the home “a short while later” and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Area 1 detectives are investigating.
