Suspect in custody after woman with 2 young children carjacked in East Garfield Park

A person was in custody after a woman with two young kids was carjacked early Monday in East Garfield Park.

The 26-year-old woman was sitting in a vehicle with two boys, 1 and 6, in the 2700 block of West Lexington Street about 4:20 a.m. when she was approached by two males who implied they had a weapon, Chicago police said.

The woman and 1-year-old were forced out of the vehicle and, after a short distance, the 6-year-old boy was forced outside too, police said.

After crashing on an expressway, one person was arrested, officials said.

No injuries were reported.
