Suspect flees traffic stop, now barricaded inside Aurora townhome

Aurora police have surrounded a townhome where they say a person who fled from Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies Saturday morning is barricaded.

The incident started at about 7:24 a.m. when deputies tried to stop a vehicle near Parker Road and Mississippi Avenue, sheriff’s office spokesperson John Bartmann said.

The vehicle sped away and crashed. Deputies detained a female passenger, and the male driver ran into the nearby Raintree East townhome complex, where police believe he entered a residence and barricaded himself by 9 a.m.

Aurora Police Department spokesperson Sydney Edwards said residents near the townhome in the 9900 block of East Evans Avenue have been ordered to shelter in place.

She was not immediately able to confirm whether the suspect is believed to be armed or holding hostages.
