Tony Hammond messaged last week about the “nice surprise” of a big northern pike caught and released while fishing the lakefront for coho.
One of the great joys of spring coho fishing is the surprise of a big northern pike and other species. His pike is particularly notable, coming on a jig and wax worm.
Hammond messaged that it was “definitely pushing 38-40” inches and released quick after photos and a quick video. He estimated it at 10-12 pounds.
Only a few months into the new year and it already feels like there will be a bunch of big northern pike again for Fish of the Week.
FOTW, the celebration of big fish and their stories (the stories matter) around Chicago fishing, runs Wednesdays in the paper Sun-Times.
