Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll’s interest in Bears appears to be mutual

Longtime NFL coach Pete Carroll has been angling for an interview with the Bears for a few weeks, and it appears he’ll get one.

Carroll, who won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks, is scheduled to interview with the Bears on Thursday, ESPN reported. He is one of more than a dozen coaches the Bears have requested to interview as general manager Ryan Poles seeks to do a deeper dive into the candidate pool than he did when he hired Matt Eberflus in 2022.

“I haven’t been a limit on it,” he said of the number of candidates. “The restriction at some point is how much time you have. There’s a lot of rules that go along with your calendar up, so we want to make sure that it’s not stressing us out to an extent where we’re not doing quality work. It absolutely needs to be quality, but I haven’t put a number on it.”

The biggest concern about Carroll is that he’s 73, though that’s not necessarily fair given that every indication has been that he’s in great shape mentally and physically.

Latest on the Bears
Carroll was out of coaching this season, but has a 170-120-1 career record and a championship ring.
Poles kept it mostly vague Tuesday, talking about needing to “look in the mirror” and review past hiring processes to identify his missteps without specifying much of what he intended to correct.
The Bears’ audience was more than just the fan base; it was their growing list of potential head coaches around the league.
