The Phoenix Suns have been playing better basketball this season without Kevin Durant on the roster. That marriage didn’t seem to work for whatever reason. Right now, the Suns are seventh in the Western Conference standings.
Phoenix has the sixth-best defense in the NBA. The offense hasn’t been as strong, but Jalen Green has also hardly played. So far, Green has just played two games with his new team. The Suns are still in search of some offensive firepower, and they might find that at the trade deadline.
In a bold three-team trade proposal from Bleacher Report, the Suns would trade for a distressed asset who could give them some upgraded athleticism.

The Suns Trade for a Young Forward With Potential in Trade Idea
Here is the full trade proposal:
Golden State Warriors Receive:
Phoenix Suns Receive:
- F Jonathan Kuminga
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive:
Adding Kuminga would help Phoenix get some more athleticism in the lineup. Kuminga has asked for a trade from the Golden State Warriors, so he wants out. Bringing Kuminga in could solve some problems, as he would likely be able to slide into the rotation.
Bringing Jackson-Davis in would give them some depth at the center spot. He has also been out of the Warriors’ rotation for a while. The only issue is sending out both O’Neale and Dunn. Dunn has shown some promise defensively, and Neale is a solid 3-point shooter.
Kuminga has shown some potential when he was given the opportunity for clear playing time in Golden State. He is able to get to the rim and adds rebounding to the table. His 3-point shooting hasn’t developed yet, but he also hasn’t been getting sustained playing time.

The Suns Might be Patient at the Trade Deadline
Phoenix would be looking to add to the offense if it made a move at the trade deadline. Right now, they have the 14th-best offense in the league. Of course, they could decide to stand pat. The Suns made a lot of trades when Mat Ishbia took over the team, and made a significant one in the offseason.
Ishbia has made comments that he wants to be a bit more patient moving forward. Green has hardly played. Perhaps he could be the de facto added piece that the Suns bring back at the deadline. He is someone who certainly has offensive talent, although he still needs to have better shot selection.
If the Suns do make a move, they will make one that doesn’t have too many implications for future first-round picks. They have already sent out too many future picks, so the organization is not going to feel any rush to send out additional draft capital.
The Suns are trying to build a contender for the future. They likely don’t have a shot to contend this year.
