Students evacuated from Golden High School after gun reported on campus

High schoolers in Golden were released from classes after a Monday morning lockdown and evacuation, according to the police department.

Officers responded Monday morning to reports of a student potentially armed with a gun at Golden High School, according to a 9:10 a.m. release from the police department. No injuries were reported.

The school was initially locked down as officers questioned the student and searched the building for any weapons, police said.

In a 10:54 a.m. update, Golden police officials said the lockdown was lifted and students had been evacuated from the building in a “controlled release.”

Police did not say if a gun was found in the school but said no injuries had been reported. The investigation remains active.

“Student safety is always our top priority, and we will continue to follow district safety procedures in any situation that arises,” Jefferson County Public Schools said in a statement to CBS.

School officials told CBS that students who walk or drive to school were released to go home on their own, those who ride the bus were taken home on buses that picked them up off campus and those that get picked up by their parents will be able to do so in the main parking lot.
