Struggling Boston Red Sox Player Still Owed Over $50 Million By The Team

On Wednesday night, the Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees (at Fenway Park) by a score of 4-1.

They have been outscored 8-1 in the first two games of the series.

Trevor Story finished Wednesday’s loss with one hit, one run and two strikeouts in four at-bats.

Story has gotten off to a very slow start to the 2026 MLB season.

He is batting .192 with 19 hits, two home runs, 17 RBI’s, eight runs, three stolen bases and 35 strikeouts in 24 games.

It’s worth noting that the Red Sox still owe Story over $50 million (including this season).

Story is one of the most important players on the Red Sox.

Story’s MLB Career

Story was picked in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

He spent the first six years of his career with the Colorado Rockies, making two All-Star Games in that span.

In 2018, Story batted .291 with 37 home runs and 108 RBI’s.

Story has had an up-and-down tenure over his six years in Boston.

He has only appeared in 344 games since signing with the franchise.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive wrote: “Since April 4 (17 games), only three members of the Red Sox have homered: Willson Contreras three times, Jarren Duran and Trevor Story.”
