Steelers Sign Chris Boswell to Historic $28 Million Contract Extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have no clue what’s going on with Aaron Rodgers, but that isn’t stopping them from finding ways to address the rest of their roster. The Steelers have brought a handful of new faces to town over the past few months, but they have also done well to keep their own players around as well.

On Monday, Pittsburgh made a big move regarding star kicker Chris Boswell‘s contract status. After enduring a down year in 2022, Boswell has reestablished himself as one of the best kickers in the NFL, and that has earned him a historic contract extension that puts him on the same level as Dallas Cowboys‘ stud Brandon Aubrey.

Steelers Sign Chris Boswell to Four-Year, $28 Million Contract Extension

Boswell went undrafted back in 2014 and initially spent time with the Houston Texans and New York Giants before finding his way to the Steelers. He eventually became the team’s starting kicker in 2015, and he hasn’t looked back since then, as he’s turned himself into one of the most reliable options across the league.

Throughout his time kicking for Pittsburgh, Boswell has earned a pair of Pro Bowl selections, in addition to a spot on the All-Pro First Team in 2024. Boswell remained as consistent as ever in 2025, as he made 27 of his 32 field goal attempts and missed only one of his 43 extra-point attempts for the Steelers.

While Boswell is set to enter his age-35 season, kickers can play well into their late 30s, and while he’s had some rough seasons in 2018 and 2022, he has looked as strong as ever as of late. Pittsburgh has decided to pay Boswell like one of the best kickers in the league now, as it has handed him a four-year, $28 million contract extension that has put him in a tie with Aubrey for the most expensive deal for a kicker in the history of the league.

“Steelers have agreed to terms with K Chris Boswell on a four-year, $28 million extension,” Adam Schefter reported in a post on X. “The $7 million average per year ties him with Brandon Aubrey for highest paid kicker in NFL history, per CAA Football. Boswell is now locked in with the Steelers through the 2030 season.”

Steelers Put Their Full Faith in Chris Boswell

GettyPittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell has been one of the best in the league over the past 10 years.

This is a massive investment in Boswell for the Steelers, and he’s certainly earned this sort of faith from the team, considering how well he has kicked over the past few seasons. Still, there is a bit of risk associated with this deal, as Boswell has labored through some miserable campaigns in the past, and he is getting older, which could have an impact on his performance.

Having a chance to lock up Boswell for what figures to be the remainder of his career, though, was an opportunity the Steelers felt they had to take advantage of, even if the price is rather high. Now, if Pittsburgh could figure out what is going on with Rodgers’ future, it could put the finishing touches on a strong offseason of work.
