Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers Sends Harsh Message to His Former Jets Team

When the New York Jets traded for future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, they expected this to be the last stop in Rodgers’ illustrious career.

Instead, two years of failures led to a total regime change, Rodgers out the door, and a new era of Jets football.

Now, Rodgers is a Pittsburgh Steeler and preparing for something he wasn’t able to bring to New York.

A playoff game.

But even as the Steelers get ready for a Wildcard Weekend tilt, Rodgers is still taking pot shots at the Jets, probably because of how Aaron Glenn ended things with the 42-year-old quarterback.

“One thing I really love, and it’s kind of the antithesis of where I was, is there’s not really any leaks in the boat,” Rodgers told reporters in Pittsburgh.

“Every year you have difficulties and adversity, both on the field and off the field, and to go through a season like this, and to be able to focus on football and not have a lot of other little bulls— out there has been really nice.”

Aaron Rodgers’ Jets Pettiness

Rodgers has held some ill will for the New York Jets since being released by the franchise.

Last February, Glenn called Rodgers in for a meeting at the Jets’ facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.

Rogers flew from his home in California to New Jersey for a 15-minute face-to-face meeting where Glenn informed Rodgers that they would be moving in a different direction.

Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey put out a joint statement informing fans that they “shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback,” via ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

But the meeting, as recounted by Rodgers, was disrespectful towards him.

“So we sit down in the office. And I think we’re going to have this long conversation, I’ve flown across the country. And 20 seconds in, he goes … I mean, literally, I’m talking to [Mougey] about something and [Glenn] leans to the edge of his seat and goes, ‘You sure you want to play football?’” Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested,’ and [Glenn] said, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.’ And I said — well, I was kind of shocked. Not shocked because I didn’t think that was a possibility. Listen, if they want to move on it’s fine. But shocked because I just flew across country and you could have told me this on the phone if we’re not even going to have a conversation.”

Rodgers Gets His Revenge on Glenn

Rodgers, after a long and drawn-out free agency, would end up signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers over the offseason.

Lo and behold, the Steelers’ Week 1 opponent of the 2025 season was the New York Jets, a perfect opportunity for either Rodgers or Glenn to get their revenge.

The new Steelers quarterback would get the last laugh that day, tossing for 244 yards and four touchdowns en route to a 34-32 victory.

“It was nice to win, especially hearing some of the catcalls out there and the boobirds. I’m not sensitive about that — I expected that, I kind of liked that,” Rodgers told reporters after the win.

“But there were probably people in the organization who didn’t think I could play anymore.”

With each passing season getting us further and further away from the Jets-Rodgers era, the hard feelings will hopefully fade away between the future Hall of Famer and the Jets.

But for now, at least as long as Glenn remains head coach, Rodgers will always feel slighted by New York and find a way to dig at them anyway he can.
