Steelers Add ‘Fearless,’ ‘Instinctive’ TE After 2026 NFL Draft: Report

The Pittsburgh Steelers added tight end Riley Nowakowski during the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. But that didn’t stop the Steelers from acquiring another tight end immediately after the draft ended.

CBS Sports’s Matt Zenitz reported Saturday night the Steelers signed USC tight end Lake McRee as an undrafted free agent.

“Was an All-Big Ten selection last season after earning honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition in 2024,” wrote Zenitz on X. “Posted 80 catches the last three years.”

Over his entire college career, McRee posted 97 catches, 1,154 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 51 games. The tight end spent all of his collegiate career, which was five years long, with the USC Trojans.

Last season, McRee had 30 catches, 450 receiving yards and four touchdowns. All three of those totals were career highs for the tight end.
