A suspect under arrest by Colorado State Patrol was injured in a Sunday night crash while being taken into custody.
The crash happened around 4:48 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 24 at Marksheffel Road, near Colorado Springs, according to a state patrol news release.
State patrol officials said the trooper, who was transporting an unidentified suspect who was arrested on a warrant from a previous traffic stop, crashed into a Toyota Prius. It’s not clear what caused the crash or who was at fault.
Images of the two cars released by Colorado State Patrol show the trooper’s vehicle with significant front-end damage and the red Toyota with a crumpled passenger’s side.
Paramedics took the arrestee and trooper to the hospital with minor injuries, state patrol officials said. The driver of the Toyota declined medical care.
The crash, which shut down the westbound highway temporarily overnight, remains under investigation, state patrol officials said.
