Shoplifter at Saratoga Safeway tries to make amends

Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information and attempted to obtain a $27,000 loan but it was not approved by the bank, and no financial loss was incurred.

Oct. 21

Annoying/ harassing electronic communications: A Saratoga student reported receiving multiple obscene text messages from unknown suspect(s).

Oct. 22

Check fraud: A Saratoga resident reported that someone obtained their check, which the victim deposited into outgoing mail at the U.S. Post Office on Allendale Avenue, and then altered and cashed the check for a total loss of approximately $15,732.

Oct. 23

Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to open an account with an online payment company and accrued debt totaling approximately $115.

Oct. 24

DUI: At 8:46 a.m., deputies stopped a motorist at Quito Road and Montpere Way for a traffic violation. An investigation revealed the motorist was driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was arrested and booked into main jail.

Shoplifting: At 5:55 p.m., the suspect entered Safeway in the Argonaut Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and stole merchandise valued at approximately $480. Deputies later identified and attempted to contact the suspect. The suspect learned of this and then went to a Safeway in Santa Cruz to pay for the stolen merchandise.

Oct. 25

Residential burglary: At 8:19 p.m., someone entered a residence in the 20000 block of Beauchamps Lane by breaking a sliding glass door and stole jewelry valued at approximately $22,500.

Oct. 27

Recovered stolen vehicle: At 11:01 p.m., deputies recovered a vehicle previously stolen out of San Jose at Clemson Avenue and Swarthmore Drive.
