Shooting in North Oakland kills man; police looking for shooter

OAKLAND — A 29-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday night in North Oakland, police said.

Officers responded about 9:40 p.m. to a gunshot-detecting alert in the 600 block of 61st Street and found the man down when they arrived. He died at a hospital.

Authorities did not identify him early Wednesday.

Police did not announce any arrests and had no information on possible suspects. They are still working to determine the motive.

The homicide investigation is the 18th by Oakland police this year. At this time in 2024, police had investigated 13 homicides.
