Seattle Seahawks Sign 20.5 Sack Big-10 Edge Rusher

The Seattle Seahawks signed Northwestern edge rusher Aidan Hubbard in undrafted free agency on Sunday. The Seahawks need help on the edge after losing Boye Mafe in free agency. Uchenna Nwosu, Derrick Hall, and Demarcus Lawrence also enter decision deciding seasons in 2026. Further, rumors cite Dante Fowler as an expected addition to the team.

Hubbard was a four year contributor at Northwestern. He contributed 20.5 sack, 105 combined tackles, and 26.5 tackles for loss. Given his production, Hubbard could have a great chance of making the roster and seems like a steal in undrafted free agency.

Some Draft Analysts Expected Hubbard to be Drafted

GettyHubbard received mixed grades from draft analysts.

PFF ranked Hubbard 331st overall in their overall NFL Draft rankings. However, he got positive grades throughout his college career as an edge rusher. In 2025, PFF gave Hubbard a 79.8 pass rush grade, 62.1 run defense grade, and a 69.4 pass rush grade in true pass sets.

Dane Brugler of the Athletic ranked Hubbard as the 30th best edge rusher in the class and gave him a round 6-7 grade. Brugler notices that Hubbard is a steady contributor who may lack some upside given his average frame for the position. However, the Seahawks are clearly getting a value with regards to where Brugler expected Hubbard to be taken.

Brugler said, “Hubbard isn’t the most dynamic edge presence, but he combines savvy pass rush and tough-minded run defense to be useful. With continued development, he can lock down an NFL depth role on the edge.”

Aidan Hubbard Athletic Profile

GettyAidan Hubbard appears to be incredibly explosive as an edge rusher.

Hubbard received a 8.77 RAS Score after testing at the NFL Combine and the Northwestern pro day. His height (just above 6’4”) and weight (259-260 lbs) are good for the position. He also bench pressed 21 times. His speed scores were also good as he ran a 4.8 40 yard dash, 2.76 20 yard split, and a 1.67 10 yard split. However, his explosion drills were excellent with a 38.5” vertical jump and a 10′ broad jump.

The Seahawks seem to be getting a steal in undrafted free agency with Hubbard, and it would not shock me at all if he makes the roster and steals some snaps during the season. He is a positive athlete and flashed consistent production in college. Perhaps he is one of the solutions to the depth on the edge.
