Scottie Scheffler will tee off this Thursday at Muirfield Village Golf Club to defend his title at the Memorial Tournament.
Rory McIlroy will also tee it up at Jack’s Place this year after choosing to skip the signature event in 2025.
He has yet to add a Memorial trophy to his collection, unlike Scheffler, but the 29-year-old has yet to complete his Grand Slam, unlike McIlroy. The two have their differences, but they seem to think alike.
Scheffler is following in McIlroy’s footsteps. The Masters winner visited Aronimink a week before the PGA Championship. In the same way, Scheffler paid a visit to Shinnecock Hills on Monday ahead of the U.S. Open.
“From Dallas, Monday morning, I went up, played 18 and then came over here Monday night,” he revealed.
Scheffler is only one win away from the Grand Slam. He will be desperately trying to match his course rival in the U.S. Open this month.
“I hadn’t been there prior. It was my first time on the property,” he said. “I’d heard some rumors about how difficult the greens were and I was a little surprised at the width of the fairways, but the green complexes there are extremely difficult.”
What Does This Mean for Scottie Scheffler’s Grand Slam?

Well, it’s no surprise that the course at the U.S Open event is tough. They are known for their extremely difficult tests. But the greens being difficult pose a difficult challenge for the World No. 1.
As is apparent from Scheffler’s play at Byron Nelson, he manages to find the green easily, owing to his extremely good iron play. But he is struggling with his putts. He missed several birdie chances on Sunday that week, which ultimately became the cause for him not to win.
The story was the same at Oakmont last year. He finished tied for seventh at the course with a score of 4-over par. He missed a lot of putts and has been missing a lot of them this year as well.
He always remains in contention but never finds that final wind to get to the lead. Starting with the Masters, he has three second-place finishes. He has finished third twice this season.
Hopefully, he has worked on his putting over the past week.
Scottie Scheffler Shares His Thoughts on Jack Nicklaus

Scheffler has two straight wins at the Memorial. He is planning for a three-peat this time around, whereas Jack Nicklaus is cheering for McIlroy to pick up his first. Muirfield Village always holds a special respect among golf fans.
“The community really rallies around this tournament and Mr. Nicholas,” Scheffler said. “He’s a guy that I look up to, not just for being a great golfer, but he’s a great family man as well.”
“You see his sons here, you see his wife here, you see his grandchildren everywhere. Mr. Nicholas is a part of the fabric of this tournament and his family is as well.”
