Inmate with medical condition dies at San Jose hospital

Deputies made the discovery while conducting a routine welfare check around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Santa Clara County sheriff’s Deputy Felicia Segura said in a news release.

The man received CPR and was taken to an area hospital. He was pronounced dead around 1:45 a.m. Friday, marking the county’s sixth in-custody death of the year.

The county Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once his next of kin is notified.

An investigation is underway into the man’s death. The inmate, however, appears to have died by suicide, Segura said, adding that there was no evidence of foul play.

On Sunday, San Jose police officers booked the man into county jail for several outstanding warrants, as well as multiple drug and resisting arrest charges, Segura said.
