San Mateo police asking for public’s help to identify suspect involved in collision that killed one

A man was killed in a hit-and-run collision in San Mateo on Saturday, and police are asking the public to help identify the suspect involved.

The victim was Mark Kremer, a 56-year-old San Mateo resident. Police said the incident occurred on Saturday just before 9 p.m. A police department press release said that the crash happened west of the 1400 block of Fashion Island Boulevard near the bridge toward south Norfolk Street. Police said Kremer was hit by an unknown car and died from his injuries at the scene.

San Mateo police are asking the public if there were any witnesses or video footage that may have captured the crash. The crash happened near a computer store near Iona Technology Inc. The police asked people who live, work or have visited the area to review any camera footage they might taken between south Norfolk Street and Chess Drive, focusing specifically on the area of 1400 Fashion Island Blvd. and south Norfolk Street, on Saturday between 8:45 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Police said that they are also open to dash cam footage of any vehicles traveling east or westbound on Fashion Island Boulevard to or from south Norfolk Street that may have captured other vehicles in the area before or after the crash.

The police also encouraged the suspect to come forward rather than letting the police find them.

“Leaving the scene of an accident is not an easy thing to carry and we understand that it is likely weighing on you,” the police said in their press release. “The stress of the unknown can be a heavy burden to bear, but we urge you to do the right thing and come forward.”
