San Jose business leaders offer support to L.A.-area businesses as fires rage

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Chamber of Commerce offered its support to Southern California business organizations as out-of-control blazes scorch the Los Angeles area.

“Our hearts go out to those affected by the devastating fires in Los Angeles County,” San Jose Chamber of Commerce President Leah Toeniskoetter said.

State, local and regional firefighters are battling wind-whipped flames that have consumed a huge area of Southern California.

“Homes, schools, libraries, grocery stores, restaurants, and businesses have been totally destroyed in some areas and remain under threat in others, despite the heroic efforts of firefighters and first responders,” Toeniskoetter said.

The fatal blazes have forced thousands to flee their homes and businesses as the flames roared forward.

“These communities face a long road to recovery,” Toeniskoetter said.

Windstorms shoved the blazes ahead through more acreage in Los Angeles County.

“The San Jose Chamber of Commerce is prepared to offer its partnership and support to our sister organizations in the areas impacted as they assess the damage and plot their next steps for the future,” Toeniskoetter said.

No estimates have emerged for containment of the blazes, CAL FIRE reported.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to those who have experienced such profound loss, and pledge our assistance in helping to rebuild,” Toeniskoetter said.
