San Francisco Giants World Series Champion Is Still Playing In The Minor Leagues

Hunter Strickland is coming off a season where he appeared in 19 games for the Los Angeles Angels.

The 37-year-old had a solid season, going 1-2 with a 3.27 ERA.

That said, he did not make the team out of spring training (and re-signed with the franchise on a minor league deal).

Jeff Fletcher of SoCal News Group wrote (on March 27): “RHP Hunter Strickland and UT Chris Taylor have returned to the Angels to play at AAA. Both were released at the end of spring training.”

Strickland Playing In Minor Leagues

Right now, Strickland is playing for the Salt Lake Bees.

He has gone 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA in his first seven games of the 2026 season.

At Strickland’s age, it’s notable that he is still playing in the minor leagues.

Strickland’s MLB Career

Strickland was picked in the 18th round of the 2007 MLB Draft.

He spent the first five years of his career with the San Francisco Giants.

In that span, Strickland went 14-14 with a 2.91 ERA in 253 games.

The Giants also won the World Series during his rookie season (2014).

Following the Giants, Strickland had stints with the Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, Washington Nationals, Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets and Seattle Mariners.

In 2019, he won his second World Series Championship as a member of the Nationals.

Over 499 career games (and 11 seasons), Strickland has gone 26-25 with a 3.39 ERA.

Considering he has been a very reliable pitcher, it will be interesting to see if the Angels (or another MLB team) add him to their roster before the end of the 2026 season.

Angels Right Now

The Angels are currently the third-place team in the American League West with an 11-13 record in 24 games.

They are just 1.5 games back of the Athletics for first.

The franchise last made the MLB playoffs during the 2014 season.
