Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet cafe pop-up in Chicago draws lines of fans

A cafe inspired by pop star Sabrina Carpenter is popping up for a short and sweet stint this weekend for fans of the “Espresso” singer.

Cash App is partnering with Carpenter to bring a “Short N’ Sweet Cafe” pop-up to 30 E. Adams St.

The pop-up, which is temporarily taking over Happy Monday Coffee, opened at 8 a.m. Saturday, with hundreds of fans lined up eager for a pre-concert immersive experience.

Carpenter will perform at the United Center on Sunday for her “Short N’ Sweet Tour” at 7 p.m., after the marathon.

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, 655 people had entered, and hundreds were still surrounding the block.

Carpenter was not present at the cafe, but drove by in a black SUV around 12:30 p.m.

Many attendees at the pop-up were fans who didn’t have tickets to Sunday’s show, including 23-year-old Lizbeth Araujo.

Araujo traveled from Berwyn for the exclusive merchandise and a drink from the espresso bar.

“I got in line at 10:30 a.m., and it’s almost 3 p.m. and we’re still not in, but she came by and waved at us earlier, so it made the waiting all worth it for me,” Araujo said.

Stephanie Rendo, 23, of the South Side was near the center of the line after waiting nearly three hours, but wasn’t giving up because she wanted to experience the pop-up.

“I don’t have tickets for her concert, but we’re here for the merch that I hope to wear tomorrow,” Rendo said. “I’ll be at the box office at 4 a.m. tomorrow trying to get tickets.”

The pop-up had T-shirts, sweatshirts, totes and more for sale, all related to her “Short N’ Sweet Tour.” At the espresso bar, where she did not have shots of espresso, drinks like Fuzzy Pink Kombucha, Honeybee Iced Latte and a Common Sense Chai were among the offerings.

“Being here is like being a part of a small community. We all love the artist, and it’s a lot of fun,” Gamaliel Ybarra said.

The pop-up was cozy, with a photo opportunity everywhere you turned and different shades of blue and red lipstick kisses everywhere.

Ybarra, 26, of Midway said that the experience was short lived, but “it was cute.”

“The pop-up adequately describes Sabrina’s aesthetic, it’s just if you know you know.”

The cafe is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
