RTD selects deputy CEO

Denver’s Regional Transportation District leaders have selected a deputy chief executive to boost efforts to improve bus and train reliability, catch up on maintenance, and ensure rider satisfaction.

They picked Angel Peña after a national search to fill the position, a new one for RTD, which entails managing departments that oversee large projects, safety, compliance with environmental laws, contracting, planning, and protecting civil rights.

RTD chief executive and general manager Debra Johnson said Peña can help address challenges and prepare the agency for the future. He has worked for public transit authorities in Boston and Washington, D.C. He earned an undergraduate degree in engineering in Venezuela and a master’s in engineering management at the Catholic University of America. He’ll start work on March 17.
