Rory McIlroy is set to make an unexpected appearance off the golf course, with the Masters champion featuring in the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. The film, scheduled for release on May 1, marks nearly two decades since the original debuted and brings together a mix of returning stars and new cameo appearances.
McIlroy, who recently defended his Masters title at Augusta National, will appear alongside his wife, Erica Stoll, in the filmâs credits. The cameo places one of golfâs biggest names into a major Hollywood production at a time when his on-course success continues to dominate headlines.
The appearance comes shortly after McIlroyâs latest victory and during a brief break from competition. It also adds to his growing list of off-course ventures, following a previous cameo in Happy Gilmore 2. Director David Frankel explained how McIlroyâs involvement came together, saying, âWell, the one I was most excited for will surprise people. Itâs not even in the world of fashion. I mean, I loved having Rory McIlroy in the movie.â

McIlroyâs cameo is part of a broader lineup of high-profile appearances in the sequel.
The film reunites director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, returning to the world of Runway magazine and its editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci also reprise their roles from the 2006 original.
Despite the fashion-heavy cast, Frankel highlighted McIlroy as a standout addition. âYou know, he was a great sport. Heâs a very good actor,â Frankel said at the European premiere in Londonâs Leicester Square.
Frankel also detailed the origin of the cameo, linking it to McIlroyâs comments ahead of his win at The Players Championship.
âYou know, it was triggered because last year, right before he won The Players Championship, the press asked him, âHow did you relax the night before you won this tournament?â And he said, âWell, I watched The Devil Wears Prada.â I knew we had a fan,â Frankel said.
McIlroyâs wife, Erica Stoll, is also credited in the film, marking a joint appearance for the couple.

The cameo comes during a period of sustained success for McIlroy on the PGA Tour.
He recently retained his Masters title at Augusta National, adding to his major championship tally and reinforcing his position among the sportâs leading players. His victory followed another high-profile win at The Players Championship earlier in the year.
While McIlroy continues to compete at the highest level, his involvement in film projects highlights his broader visibility beyond golf.
This is not his first experience in a major production. He previously appeared in Happy Gilmore 2, continuing a trend of professional golfers making cameo appearances in sports-related and mainstream films.
Reflecting on that experience at the time, McIlroy said, âI havenât even watched the movie yet, because I donât want to see myself trying to act. I am going to try and watch it this week maybe, but it was an amazing experience.â
The upcoming Devil Wears Prada sequel also explores new storylines within the fashion industry, including Miranda Priestly navigating changes in magazine publishing and a renewed rivalry with Emily Charlton, now a senior executive controlling key advertising revenue.
For McIlroy, the cameo adds another dimension to a year already defined by major success. As he prepares for upcoming tournaments, including the PGA Championship in May, his presence in the film reflects his continued crossover appeal beyond the sport.
The filmâs May 1 release will mark McIlroyâs latest appearance in a global production, placing the Masters champion in a different spotlight while his on-course achievements remain the primary focus.
