Rockies Recap: Kris Bryant hits mammoth homer, German Marquez returns

On the mound: Right-hander German Marquez, returning from an elbow injury that limited him to one game last season, pitched his first game of spring. Marquez pitched two scoreless innings, giving up no hits, walking two and striking out two. … Lefty Austin Gomber gave up one hit and struck out three over two scoreless innings. … Young right-handed reliever Angel Chivilli, 22, is having a solid spring. He has not allowed a run and pitched a perfect sixth inning Tuesday, striking out two.

At the plate: Kris Bryant, who’s hopeful he can stay healthy this season, hit a mammoth two-run homer off Chicago right-hander Jairo Iriarte in the fourth inning. Bryant’s first home run of spring traveled 462 feet to left-center and came off his bat at 111.8 mph. … The Rockies pounded out 15 hits, including two from outfield prospect Yanquiel Fernandez and two from new second baseman Thairo Estrada.

Prospect watch: Third baseman Kyle Karros went 2 for 2 with a walk and is hitting .400 in the early going.
