On the mound: Veteran right-hander German Marquez’s inconsistent spring continued. He served up a two-run homer to Joc Pederson in the first and a solo shot to Corey Seager in the fifth. Marquez gave up three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk over 4 2/3 innings. With one more spring start left, Marquez has a 5.73 ERA. The good news is that his right elbow is healthy. … Right-hander Tyler Kinley, competing for the closer’s job, pitched one-third of an inning, getting a strikeout. Kinley has yet to give up a run. … Right-hander Victor Vodnik, another candidate for closer, pitched a perfect ninth, striking out one. He has a 3.86 ERA.
At the plate: Colorado plugged into its power supply, hitting four homers. Outfielder Sam Hilliard, mired in a deep slump, broke out with a two-run homer in the first off Kumar Rocker. … Jordan Beck is heating up as spring training nears its end. He went 2 for 3 with a solo homer. Beck also stole two bases. … Colorado’s other homers came from Michael Toglia and Hunter Goodman. … Outfielder Zac Veen, competing for a spot on the 26-man roster, went 2 for 5 with three strikeouts.
