Rockies Recap: Chase Dollander impresses, Hunter Goodman stays red hot

Rockies 3, Giants 1

Tuesday at Salt River Fields

On the mound: Top prospect Chase Dollander, trying to pitch his way onto the 26-man roster, displayed his talents against the Giants. He struck out seven over 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and walked two. Dollander, who has a 5.65 ERA, still struggles with pitch efficiency. He threw 73 pitches (45 strikes) during his short start. … Former No. 1 draft pick Ryan Rolison, who’s battled shoulder issues for more than two seasons, pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up a run on two hits and two walks. … Right-handed prospect Zach Agnos, making a push to be in the big-league bullpen, pitched one scoreless inning with one strikeout. He’s pitched to a 3.86 ERA this spring.

At the plate: Catcher Hunter Goodman’s sizzling spring continued. Goodman, who has locked up the backup role behind Jacob Stallings, is hitting .484 with a 1.285 OPS after his 2-for-3 night. Goodman hit a triple and a double, driving in a run. … Outfield prospect Zac Veen, who has a legitimate chance to make the big-league roster, hit 1 for 3 with an RBI. He’s hitting .318 and stole his seventh base, the most in the Cactus League. … Designated hitter Kris Bryant was back in the lineup and hit cleanup, but his Cactus League struggles continued. Bryant was 0 for 3 with one strikeout and his average dipped to .120. … Entering camp, Sam Hilliard was penciled in as the fourth outfielder and Brenton Doyle’s backup in center, but Hilliard’s struggles continue. He was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts. He’s hitting .057 (2 for 35) with 20 strikeouts in 39 plate appearances.
