Rockies Recap: Antonio Senzatela sharp in 4-3 win over Padres

On the mound: Antonio Senzatela’s excellent spring continued. The right-hander, who’s missed most of the last two seasons because of injuries, pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two. In eight Cactus League innings, Senzatela has allowed no runs and just two hits while striking out five vs. only one walk. His fastball reached 97 mph Wednesday. … Right-hander Jefry Yan picked up the save even though he gave up two runs on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning.

At the plate: The Rockies, who improved to 10-3-1, got only five hits but went 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position. … New second baseman Thairo Estrada continues to impress. He went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Estrada has hit safely in seven of eight games and has a .500 average. … Gold Glove shortstop Ezequiel Tovar was hit by a pitch in his left arm in the first inning and departed the game in the third. The Rockies said he suffered a left triceps contusion.

Prospect watch: Second baseman Adael Amador, who had a brief stint with the Rockies last season, delivered an RBI single in the eighth to score Kyle Karros. Amador is hitting .333 with an .821 OPS.

Roster moves: The Rockies continued whittling their big-league roster. They optioned infielder/outfielder Greg Jones to Triple-A Albuquerque. They assigned the following players to minor league camp: left-handed pitcher Jack O’Loughlin, infielder Ryan Ritter, and outfielders Cole Carrigg, Benny Montgomery and Sterlin Thompson.

Colorado now has 52 players in major league camp, including 14 non-roster invitees, with 39 players on the 40-man roster.
