Robbers use dating app to lure victims on South Side, police say

Chicago police are warning residents about recent South Side robberies in which victims were lured to a location through a dating app.

In each of the three cases, the robbers contacted victims on a dating app and asked them to meet at a specific address — two of which were abandoned buildings, police said.

At the meet-ups, additional robbers would appear armed with a knife or a handgun and demand the victim’s belongings, police said. A handgun was stolen from one of the victims.

The robberies reportedly happened at the following times and locations:

About 6:45 p.m. Sept. 15 in the 800 block of East 90th StreetAbout 12:20 a.m. Sept. 24 in the 800 block of East 90th StreetAbout 6 a.m. Thursday in the 8100 block of South Marshfield Avenue

Police said there are two to three robbers who they describe as Black males between 16 and 30 years old.
