As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to host the San Francisco 49ers in a highly anticipated Wild Card showdown, Richard Sherman called out the Eagles.
He made it clear that heâs not buying into the idea that Philly should cruise to an easy win. Â
In a post on X and reinforced by comments on The Richard Sherman Podcast, the former All-Pro cornerback pushed back hard.Â
He brought up narratives surrounding injuries, expectations, and the Eaglesâ perceived dominance.Â
âInjuries arenât an excuse, itâs the reality of the game,â Sherman wrote.Â
He argued that if the Eagles were missing stars like Jalen Carter, A.J. Brown, and Saquon Barkley and lost a playoff game, the conversation would instantly shift toward what could have been.Â
From Shermanâs perspective, that same logic applies to the 49ers.Â
âIf the 49ers had Bosa and Warner this wouldnât even be a conversation.âÂ
He added, âthe fact that this will be a game even without 2 top 25 players in the NFL says more than anything. But you will see.
Sherman: 49ersâ Injuries Change Entire Narrative
Shermanâs argument centers on how heavily the 49ers have been impacted by injuries throughout the season, particularly on defense.Â
Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, Mykel Williams, Tatum Bethune and Andrew Mukuba are all on IR.Â
âIf they were healthy, we wouldnât even be having this discussion,â Sherman said.Â
âThis wouldnât be framed as some huge test for the Eagles. It would be a completely different conversation.â
Sherman emphasized how impressive the 49ers season has been despite all the injuries.Â
âThe fact that theyâre still here, still dangerous, still being talked about as a threat, that tells you everything you need to know,â he said.Â
âPeople act like availability doesnât matter until itâs their team.âÂ
From Shermanâs perspective, San Fran enters the matchup with nothing to lose and that makes them dangerous.
Sherman Takes Aim at Eagles and Patullo
Sherman didnât stop with injury context.Â
He also questioned whether the Eagles are truly the same team that dominated last season.Â
âThis ainât gonna be the walk in the park the Eagles think itâs gonna be,â Sherman said on The Richard Sherman Podcast.
âNot because they arenât talented. They are one of the most talented teams in the league, but talent doesnât automatically mean execution.â
Sherman then bluntly called out the Eagles coaching staff:Â
âSometimes this offense looks like a Ferrari shell with a Corolla engine,â Sherman said.Â
âThe Corolla engine is the guy calling the plays.â
He acknowledged the criticism surrounding offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, but said the film speaks for itself.Â
âI donât want to do this. I really donât,â Sherman said. âBut the tape is the tape. This offense was not broken. It did not need to be fixed.âÂ
He added, âthe explosive runs arenât what they used to be. The explosive passes arenât what they used to be. It just looks conservative and that matters in the playoffs.âÂ
To many, Shermanâs message is confusing and conflicting.Â
On one hand, Sherman questioned the Eagles and suggested this matchup would look very different if the 49ers were fully healthy.Â
On the other, he made it clear that injuries arenât excuses and are simply part of the game.
Whatever Shermanâs true message is, the Eagles will have a chance to prove him wrong on Sunday.
