The Detroit Red Wings are in a great place right now. At the time of this writing, they have a 32-18-6 record and are in second place in the Atlantic Division. This is after they finished this past season with a 39-35-8 record and missed the playoffs for the ninth straight year in a row.
With the Red Wings taking a major step in the right direction so far this season, it is clear that they should be buyers at the 2026 NHL trade deadline. They are undoubtedly in a position to add to their roster, too. According to PuckPedia, the Red Wings have over $33 million of current cap space and just under $60 million of deadline cap space. Thus, if they want to make a big splash, they have the money to do so.
The New York Rangers, on the other hand, are in an entirely different position. They are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with a 22-28-6 record. Due to this, general manager Chris Drury announced that the Rangers are retooling, and several of their players are prime trade candidates because of it. One of them is star center Vincent Trocheck, and he would be a fantastic player for the Red Wings to bring in.
Due to this, we here at Heavy Sports have a trade pitch that would have the Rangers send Trocheck to the Red Wings in a big move.
Red Wings Get:
- Vincent Trocheck
Rangers Get:
- 2026 First-Round Pick
- Amadeus Lombardi
- William Wallinder
Rangers’ Trocheck Is Among Top NHL Trade Candidates
With the Rangers being in a retool, Trocheck is currently one of the top trade candidates in the NHL right now. Due to this, he was given the No. 2 spot on Chris Johnston’s latest trade board for The Athletic.
“A center who makes an impact on both sides of the puck, Trocheck’s game remains at a level that earned him a spot on Team USA for next month’s Olympics. Known for playing with grit and determination, he’s got the tools to play in all situations and can handle heavy, difficult minutes. He’s viewed as a leader for the Rangers and represents a prime chip for them to play in the retool,” Johnston wrote.
With Trocheck creating chatter in the rumor mill, the Red Wings would be incredibly wise to target him. He would provide their forward group with another star center as they look to cement themselves as true contenders.
In 42 games this season, Trocheck has recorded 12 goals, 24 assists, and 36 points. With numbers like these, he would certainly give the Red Wings’ top six a nice boost if acquired.
Red Wings Are Looking for Top-Six Center
During a recent episode of TSN Insider Trading, Darren Dreger reported that the Red Wings are looking to add a second-line center with term. Trocheck, who has a $5.625 million cap hit until the end of the 2028-29 season, would give the Red Wings just that. Thus, it would be completely understandable if they made a push for Trocheck.
When looking at trade candidates around the NHL, Trocheck could very well be the best fit for a team on the rise like the Red Wings. It will be interesting to see if they end up being the team that lands him from here.
