Raylon East charged in Navy Pier double homicide

A man has been charged in the fatal shooting of two men at Navy Pier Tuesday, according to Chicago police.

Raylon East, a 36-year-old South Shore resident, faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony unlawful use of a weapon, police said. East’s arrest was announced Thursday.

East, described by police as a “disgruntled” ex-employee of a subcontractor at the pier who was fired Oct. 14, is alleged to have shot and killed two victims in a targeted attack Tuesday, police said.

It was about 1:30 p.m. when paramedics were called to the pier, 600 E. Grand Ave., Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford said Tuesday. A security guard found Lamont Johnson, 51, of suburban Lansing, and Peter Jennings, 47, of the North Park neighborhood, in a loading dock area, according to scanner traffic. There were shell casings surrounding them.

He is expected in court Saturday afternoon.
