Not content with merely being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Lamar Jackson is set to try his hand at acting. The Baltimore Ravens starter will be part of the fourth season of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” a 50 Cent-backed series shown on Starz.
Jackson provided details on Instagram on Friday, March 21. The two-time league MVP posted, “I’m so excited for fans to see me in this new role and thrilled to be a part of ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan.’ My character, E-Tone is a deadly, dangerous character- you don’t want to get on his bad side!”
As ESPN’s Jamison Hensley noted, Jackson’s long “been an avid fan of the series, actively giving praise to “Raising Kanan” on social media.” Hensley also speculated about the character arc of Jackson’s E-Tone, with the small-screen creation “likely involved with Unique, the antagonist of the series, who is wreaking havoc after a surprise resurrection in the season three finale.”
Show-runner 50 Cent confirmed Jackson’s first appearance will be in Friday’s episode: “Yes I’m turning it up notch! Lamar Jackson tonight in Raising Kanan we sucker free!”
Lamar Jackson Set for Short Stay in Power Universe
Jackson’s stint in the power universe is likely to be a short one. The 28-year-old “will appear as a guest star in just one episode,” according to People’s Julia Moore.
Based on the shot Jackson captioned for his Instagram post, he will interact with show antagonist ‘Unique,’ played by rapper Joey Bada$$. This likelihood prompted Carita Parks of Double Take Sports to exclaim, “The way Niq been crashing out lately…this interaction will probably not end well for ‘E-Tone.’ IYKYK.”
All signs point to Jackson being one and done on a show he adores. While that’s far from certain, his upcoming foray into a single episode represents a welcome break from football for the three-time All-Pro.
Jackson’s focus has been on trying to get the Ravens over the Super Bowl hump. While he’s come close, the ultimate prize continues to elude the premier dual-threat playmaker in the game.
Ravens Need a Recharged QB1 to Power Another Super Bowl Push
While some may be uncomfortable with Jackson dipping his toe into the world of show-biz before he’s even lifted a Lombardi Trophy, this could work for the Ravens. Jackson was laser-focused last season, often sounding less than happy even after emphatic victories.
Setting high standards the hallmark of any winner, but too much victory without enjoyment can be a bad thing. It can lead to playing uptight when the stakes are high, something Jackson and the Ravens have admitted to in the past.
What the Ravens need from their QB1 is a balance between playing with a smile on his face and holding his nerve when it matters most. Doing the latter has been a problem for a gifted athlete who’s just 3-5 in the playoffs, per StatMuse.
The postseason failures are naturally sources of anger and frustration for Jackson. Perhaps taking a step back to ease the pressure of carrying the hopes of a franchise will prove just the tonic.
