Proposed 3-Player Blockbuster Trade Sends Ja Morant to the Miami Heat

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has had a lopsided 2025-26 season, in which he has offered little to no help to the franchise in terms of availability.

In addition to playing just under 80 games in the last three seasons, Morant is reportedly among the big names to be dealt this offseason.

Among the biggest suitors for the 26-year-old guard could be the Miami Heat.

The proposed deal discussed by Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey is one that could shape up to be an intriguing one. The Heat could have a dynamic new centerpiece, while Memphis could create significant salary space to accelerate its rebuild.

Proposed Heat trade for Ja Morant

Bailey views the 26-year-old Grizzlies star as a likely trade asset this offseason. In a recent article, he proposed the Heat swing a deal that would land them Morant in a two-team, three-player deal. Miami would send Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell to Memphis in exchange.

Wiggins only joined Miami ahead of last year’s deadline from the Golden State Warriors, so too Mitchell from the Toronto Raptors.

The Grizzlies already traded Jaren Jackson Jr. at the trade deadline and will finish this season below the play-in seeds. Morant only played 20 games this season, having his lowest point average since his second year. He is also shooting at a career-low 41% from the floor and, coupled with his health issues, Memphis might have had enough.

“At this point, given his robust history of injuries and suspensions, as well as his continued struggles as a jump shooter, the rebuilding Grizzlies should just be happy to be getting out of Morant’s contract without taking on too much long-term money,” Bailey wrote.

Morant still has two years and about $87 million left on his five-year, $197 million extension; his trade value has dipped amid a history of injuries and past suspensions.

Wiggins and Mitchell come across as the kind of players Memphis could use, if not for anything, for their reliability. Both players have played over 60 games for the Heat this season. Only three players on the entire roster have played that many games for the Grizzlies all year.

What Morant can still offer Miami

Morant may have a documented history of injuries, but he is one player that the Heat perhaps won’t be willing to pass on. They have leaned on stars Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro for so long but lack a true game-changing guard.

Both parties appear to have motivating factors to initiate the trade. Memphis desires flexibility to rebuild, while the Heat see a potential high-reward swing on a guard who is still in his prime years.

The risk for the Heat will be Morant’s availability — he still hasn’t played 70 games in his seven-year career — and off the court troubles.

Morant, 26, has proven to be one of the league’s most dynamic offensive players when healthy, that’s been a big if thus far in his career.

With the Grizzlies headed toward a massive rebuild after dealing Jackson Jr. in February, all signs point to Morant’s time in Memphis coming to an end.
