Bishop O’Dowd girls golf’s special season has ended with a West Alameda County Conference championship.
The Dragons turned in a sterling effort at the league championship match on Wednesday, compiling a team score of 391 to finish in first place. Alameda (414), Castro Valley (483), Piedmont (562), Berkeley (570), San Leandro (606) and Arroyo (609) were the other teams competing.
Arizona commit Sydney Silva led the way for O’Dowd, carding a 3-under-par 68 on the par-71 course. Freshman Hayley Fong carded an even-par 71, and senior Chelsie Chin shot a 2-over 73.
The Dragons’ top three finishers were the three best in the overall field. O’Dowd senior Chloe Blume shot a personal-best 85 to place seventh.
“I’m extremely proud of the senior leadership, as they took care of business like they have been doing all year,” said coach Zach Hile. “Hayley Fong has just gotten better as the year has gone on. Several of the girls said they felt like they didn’t play that great, so I’m excited to see what they can do when they are on. Special shoutout to juniors Ananya Prem and Mackenzie Daniel for fighting through adversity in their rounds.”

Mercy 3, Sacred Heart Prep 1
Mercy took down SHP 26-24, 18-25, 25-18, 25-19 to take sole possession of the top spot in the West Bay Athletic League standings on Tuesday. Senior Mia Ferdinand led the Bears with 18 kills and six blocks. Fellow senior Amira Festejo Rivera led Mercy (20-5, 6-0) with 21 digs. Junior Poema Uegligitone paced the Gators (16-13, 5-1) with 15 kills, followed closely by freshman Leilah Abrams with 14. Abrams added 16 digs to lead SHP. SHP sophomore Kiley McGibben led all setters with 44 assists, and Mercy senior Lana Trehan distributed 31.
Palo Alto 3, Los Gatos 2
Palo Alto edged out Los Gatos in a close victory at home on Wednesday. Mia Halsey led Los Gatos with 20 kills, and Nicole Steiner was right behind with 18. Britt Melinauskas paced the Wildcats with five aces. Steiner added 22 digs to lead the Cats.
San Leandro 3, San Lorenzo 0
San Leandro earned a dominant clean sweep (25-9, 25-11, 25-17) at home Wednesday against San Lorenzo. The Pirates (15-10, 9-0 WACC) were paced by senior Zoe Gaffney, who hit .417 with 12 kills and added seven service aces. Senior Makayla Arenas led San Leandro with 12 digs. Senior Jordyn Chua Limarie contributed 24 set assists.
California School for the Deaf-Fremont 3, Cornerstone Christian 2
CSD picked up its second win of the season with a clutch five-set triumph at Cornerstone Christian-Antioch.

Menlo School 17, Serra 7
It was a good day for Menlo School at Serra. The Knights doubled up Serra behind six goals from Hunter Coleman, five from Lincoln Bott and three by Jackson Coleman. Hunter Coleman had five saves in goal, and Connor Burks collected four.
Girls water polo
Sacred Heart Prep 14, St. Francis 2
SHP had very little trouble with St. Francis on Wednesday. Senior Vivian Golub led the Gators with four goals. Junior Cal McElhinney had four assists. Senior Isabella Dova snatched five saves in goal for the Gators.

Harker 25, Pinewood 19
Harker earned a thrilling and hard-fought win on the road over Pinewood in league play last Friday. Senior quarterback Rayan Arya orchestrated Harker’s offense with three rushing touchdowns and a passing score to sophomore wide receiver Arav Vuppala. Junior running back Jackson Powell rushed for 126 yards and averaged 9 yards per carry. Sophomore Pedro Castro III compiled nine tackles and snagged a pivotal interception. Freshman defensive lineman Marloe Sanchez-Taporco collected 2 1/2 sacks, teaming up with junior lineman Sid Sundar to seal the victory for the Eagles with a combined sack in the final minutes. Harker is 4-2 and 2-1 in league play, Pinewood is 3-3 and 1-2 in league action. “The game showcased resilience and defense, with both teams battling until the very end,” said Harker athletic director Dan Molin.

Menlo School 42, Sacred Heart Cathedral 6
Menlo School improved to 15-0 this season and has won 30 consecutive games overall as a program. Ava Allen tossed five touchdown passes and three two-point conversions. Maren Mulloy snagged three TD catches, and Ellie Knoll caught two, including a 55-yard reception. Sophia Longinidis returned an interception 80 yards to the house.

California School for the Deaf-Fremont 76, Frazier Mountain-Lebec 6
California School for the Deaf rolled in last Thursday’s matchup against a team from the Southland. Quarterback Aiden Shupe completed 4 of 6 passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 50 yards and two scores on four attempts. Freshman Devon Miller led the Eagles with 73 yards rushing and three TDs, and Kaloni Rosby added 65 yards and a score on the ground. Jaden Dingel and Isaac Hayes also had rushing touchdowns. CSD (4-4) has a bye week this week and will next travel to take on Elsie Allen-Santa Rosa Nov. 1.
