Prep roundup: Graham Schlicht’s pitching gem lifts De La Salle over Dublin

Graham Schlicht’s first victory of the season isn’t one he’ll soon forget.

The De La Salle junior needed 85 pitches on Wednesday to shut out Dublin as the visiting Spartans prevailed 1-0 in an East Bay Athletic League game.

Schlicht, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound right-hander, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. De La Salle recorded the gem as a two-hitter in its stats reported to MaxPreps. Dublin had it as a five-hitter.

No matter, Schlicht was on top of his game as the Spartans (4-2, 1-1) extended their win streak to four.

De La Salle provided Schlicht with all the run support he’d need when freshman Jacob Gray knocked in Niko Baumgartner in the second inning.

Aside from that, Dublin’s Willie Maya (four innings) and Kaleb McElmurry (three innings) matched Schlicht zero for zero.

Dublin fell to 10-2, 2-2.

No. 3 Granada 8, Monte Vista 5

Granada built a 6-1 lead through two innings and then held off visiting Monte Vista to stay undefeated in EBAL play.

Mikey Boyd had two hits, scored two runs and drove in three and Tommy Brown homered, scored three runs and had two RBIs to lead the Matadors, who improved to 6-2, 3-0.

Tony Keeling hit a grand slam for Monte Vista (2-8, 1-2).

No. 11 Leigh 13, Westmont 2

Leigh needed only five innings to roar past Westmont in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division opener.

The Longhorns spotted Westmont two runs in the top of the first, then answered with a run in the bottom half, followed by eight in the second and four in the third.

The game was called in the fifth because of the 10-run rule.

Jacob Madonna had two hits and drove in four runs and Lance Takamura and Michael Mogannam each had two RBIs for Leigh, which improved to 8-1, 1-0.

Westmont is 2-7-1, 0-1.

No. 19 Clayton Valley Charter 6 Vanden-Fairfield 2

Cole Edmonston, Elliott Webb and Jack Campbell each finished with two hits and an RBI as Clayton Valley remained undefeated with a nonleague victory at home in Concord over Vanden.

The Ugly Eagles (8-0) scored all of their runs in the first five innings. Vanden (4-10) scored its two runs in the seventh.

Amador Valley 12, California 0

Four was a good number for visiting Amador Valley as the Dons scored four in the first, four in the sixth and four in the seventh to trounce California in EBAL play.

Gavin Whalley had two doubles and three RBIs and Vince Maiorana had three hits, including a double, and knocked in three runs to lead the way.

The Dons also got two hits and an RBI apiece from Ryan Doan and George Fagundes.

Brennan Baptist pitched six scoreless innings and Tyler Cannon pitched one as Amador Valley improved to 7-2, 2-1.

California is 4-3, 1-2.

Livermore 5, San Ramon Valley 2

Livermore scored three in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and beat host San Ramon Valley in an EBAL game.

Dylan Wherry’s single knocked in Tanner Bingham to make it 3-2. Elijah Demiris followed with a double that brought in Erik Schock and Wherry.

Bingham and Wherry each had two hits and Braden Ford allowed two unearned runs and struck out six in 4 2/3 innings as Livermore improved to 8-3, 2-1.

Jake Tsunemoto had two hits for SRV (4-6, 1-2).

Santa Teresa 4, Branham 2

Andres Cedillo, Marco Pacheco and David Hall each drove in a run as Santa Teresa opened BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division play with a victory at home over Branham.

Micah DeLap and Mason Hawk combined to allow two runs as Santa Teresa ran its record to 5-4, 1-0.

Branham is 5-4, 0-1.

Softball

No. 7 Notre Dame-Belmont 6, No. 6 Mills 3

Trailing 3-2 after 4 1/2 innings, Notre Dame scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to rally past visiting Mills in a Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division opener.

Stella Hird had a hit and two RBIs, Hailey Truong added three hits and an RBI and Skylar Loo, Caroline Zerella and Eliana Crespin each had two hits for Notre Dame.

Audrey Jang homered for Mills, which fell to 8-2-1, 0-1.

Notre Dame is 6-2, 1-0.

No. 8 San Ramon Valley 5, Northgate 3

San Ramon Valley, playing at home in Danville, scored five runs in the second inning, and that was enough to turn back Northgate in this nonleague matchup.

Isla Higgins had a hit and knocked in two runs and Maddie Neighbor and Brianna Schapiro each had an RBI for SRV, which improved to 7-2-1.

Ashley Herman finished with three hits, including a double, for Northgate (3-2).

No. 10 Live Oak 14, Silver Creek 4

Live Oak scored four in the bottom of the fifth to finish off Silver Creek by 10-run rule in this BVAL Santa Teresa Division game.

Julianna Altamirano went 3 for 4 with two doubles and drove in three runs and Tilly Hill went 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the Acorns, who improved to 8-1, 3-0.

Silver Creek fell to 5-5, 1-2.

No. 15 San Leandro 3, Berkeley 2

Marina Sacrey, Julianna Morales and Camryn Gilbert each drove in a run to lead San Leandro past host Berkeley in a West Alameda County Conference Shoreline A Division game.

The Pirates scored a run in the fourth in two in the sixth to build a 3-0 lead. Berkeley responded with two in the home half of the sixth.

Mia Kaufman had a hit and an RBI for the Yellowjackets, who slipped to 4-4, 2-1.

San Leandro is 11-1, 3-0.

Piedmont Hills 11, Prospect 0

Alicia Valladarez, Leilani Ortiz and Hannah Hernandez had two RBIs apiece and Danie Pacheco and Isabella Paskert each had two hits as Piedmont Hills breezed past Prospect in a BVAL Santa Teresa Division game called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Ava Martinez (four innings) and Valladarez (two innings) combined on the shutout from the pitcher’s circle as Piedmont Hills improved to 9-3, 4-0.

Prospect is 5-3, 3-1.
