Police ID Oakland man killed next to taco truck

OAKLAND — Police here have identified a man shot and killed as he stood with several friends in the parking lot where a local taco truck is known to park.

Rafael Loeza Jr., 27, was shot and killed a little before 9 a.m. on Sept. 18, in a parking lot on 27th Avenue and International Boulevard in Oakland. Loeza was outside of his nearby parked car, speaking with several friends, when two suspects rushed up and shot him.

The men appeared to be targeting Loeza or someone he was speaking with. Investigators are looking at it as a possible act of gang violence, authorities said.

No one else was injured. Loeza died hours later at a hospital, authorities said.

Police have not announced any arrests.
