Police ID man killed in North Oakland shootout

OAKLAND — Police have identified a 29-year-old man killed during a North Oakland shootout earlier this month.

William Earl Robinson, 29, was shot and killed around 9:40 p.m. March 4, on the 600 block of 61st Street in Oakland, police said. No arrests have been announced but police are still investigating the incident.

Authorities say Robinson attended a basketball game at Berkeley High School earlier in the evening, then went to a birthday party on 61st Street.

He was hanging out with a group of friends in front of the home when they were approached by another group from nearby Dover Street. The people who approached reportedly began firing and at least one person in Robinson’s group shot back.

Robinson was hospitalized and pronounced dead within an hour, authorities said. Police haven’t said whether they have identified a suspected motive.

Anyone with information can contact Oakland police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950.
